Mahindra ends ties with blacklisted Rheinmetall

Mahindra Defence Systems (MDS) has ended all its ties with a blacklisted Swiss company for a project to produce surveillance radars for navy. MDS, a part of the Mahindra and Mahindra group, had tied up with Rheinmetall Air Defence-- a Zurich-based defence firm, for a proposed navy tender to produce surveillance radars for warships. "We have informed the Defence Ministry that we no longer have any tie-up with Rheinmetall Air Defence (RAD) and we will soon make an announcement about our new partner for the project," company officials said. The decision in this regard was taken by the company soon after the Defence Ministry blacklisted RAD along with Israeli IMI, Corporation Defence of Russia and Singapore Technologies Kinetics and two Indian firms for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore ordnance factory scam and debarred them for further business dealings for 10 years. Tejas LSP-7 Carries Out Successful Maiden Flight

India's indigenous combat plane Tejas's Limited Series Production-7 manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) had its successful maiden flight March 9 In Bangalore. "The Tejas LSP-7 aircraft took-off for its maiden flight from HAL airport at 4:27 pm on March 9," a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials said here. This test flight is significant for the Tejas programme, as the LSP -7 meets the standards that are required for the light combat aircraft's initial operational clearance (IOC). Accordingly, LSP -7 aircraft, along with LSP-8 will be offered to the Indian Air Force for user evaluation trials (UET), DRDO said. Read More...
