India's DRDO Told To Speed up Projects

India's defence research agency, the DRDO, has been told to speed up its weapons and systems development programmes to ensure self-reliance in fulfilling the armed forces' needs from indigenous sources. The direction from Defence Minister AK Antony comes a week after the Comptroller and Auditor General, India's official auditors, slammed the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for deficiencies in its projects and procedural lapses in obtaining sanction for its new projects. India's Indigenous 5th-Gen Combat Plane to Boast Of Condition Monitoring Systems

India is developing a new fifth general fighter aircraft and it will have the latest integrated condition monitoring systems covering important systems such as avionics, structural health, air conditioning, and pressure regulation. India Contemplates Anti-Satellite Vehicle Integration with Agni-III Ballistic Missile

India’s varied missile capabilities are catching up to be at par with those of the US and China, as talks revolve around integrating the Agni-III ballistic missile with a satellite kill vehicle. According to DRDO Chief V K Saraswat, India is considering the feasibility of developing an anti-satellite missile which will lend a superior edge to India’s missile power. IAF Chief Expresses Need for Core Technology like Indigenous Aircraft Engine and AESA Radars

The Indian Air Chief Marshal N.A.K.Browne has urged the state-run Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) to develop an indigenous military aircraft engine at the earliest. While the ‘Kaveri’ engine development programme has not been fruitful yet, India desperately needs a powerful aircraft engine soon to enhance its military capabilities. DRDO Tie-Up with SNECMA for Kaveri Engine Still not Final

The Indian Defence Ministry has announced that a final agreement is still to be reached regarding the tie-up between state-run Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and French firm Snecma for the development of the Kaveri engine which was to be used for ‘Tejas’ Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). The negotiation between DRDO and Snecma of France for co-development and co-production of Kaveri aero engine is still being carried out and yet to be finalized. Read More...
