India to Take Up Gorshkov with Prez Putin

Long delays in the handing over of aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov will be taken up in a "big way" during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit next month while India is seriously considering imposing a penalty of around Rs 600 crore over the issue. Putin was supposed to visit on Friday but has postponed his visit to December 24. Russia had informed India at the Defence Minister-level talks earlier this month that it would be able to deliver the much-delayed warship only by the end of next year due to malfunctions in its boilers. IAF to Upgrade Strength along Pakistan Border

Indian Air Force will deploy medium power radars and advanced helicopters in the western sector in order to strengthen its preparedness along the Indo-Pak border in Rajasthan. While Jodhpur airbase will soon have a squadron of transport helicopters Mi-17 V5, medium power radars would also be deployed at Jaisalmer airbase, Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South-Western Air command, said at a press conference here. Gogoi said that the new squadron at Phalodi will be ready by October this year. Admitting that the SW air command has shortage of transport aircraft, he said that it will also be looked into. Russia Flies High As IAF Plans 71 Additional Mi-17 Choppers and Ka-226 T Overshadows Eurocopter's 550 C3 for Army

After having recently inducted the first Mi-17 V5 chopper into the fleet, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced that it is planning to procure 71 more Mi-17 V5 helicopters. Out of these 71 choppers, 59 would be provided to the IAF for replacing its old Mi-8 and Mi-17IV choppers and six would go to the Border Security Force. Read More...

IAF to Procure 71 More Mi-17 V5 Choppers for USD 800 Million

The IAF is planning to procure 71 more Mi-17 V5 choppers including 12 for the Ministry of Home Affairs for over USD 800 million for strengthening its helicopter fleet. These choppers would in addition to the 80 already ordered from Russia. Of the 80 choppers ordered earlier, Defence Minister A K Antony formally inducted their first batch on Friday. 59 of the 71 choppers would be provided to the IAF for replacing its old Mi-8 and Mi-17IV choppers and six would be given to the Border Security Force. C-130j on Republic Day Parade Flypast for the First Time

Indian Air Force's (IAF) latest acquisition, the Lockheed Martin C-130J transport plane, will be part of the fly past over Rajpath for the first time ever during this year's Republic Day parade in New Delhi on January 26. Three C-130Js will be part of the IAF's 29 aircraft, including air superiority Sukhoi 30-MKI and MiG29 combat plane fly past, a senior IAF officer said here. All six of the C-130J that India bought from US has been delivered to the IAF in 2011. As in the previous year, the highlight of the flypast will be the vertical Charlie manoeuvre by a lone Sukhoi aircraft that would mark the culmination of the flypast. Read More...
