Nepal Army Chief To Be Conferred Honorary Indian Army General Rank

Nepal Army chief General Gaurav Shamsher Rana will be conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army by President Pranab Mukherjee when he will be in India on an eight-day official visit beginning January 7. It is a custom between the two armies to confer this honour on each other's chief since 1965 to signify their close military-to-military ties. The rank conferring investiture ceremony will be held on January 8 at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Presidential Place on Raisina Hills here, Indian Army officers said here. Singapore Defence Minister Dismisses Firm Blacklisting

Dismissing the blacklisting of a firm from his country by India as a hurdle in military ties, Singaporean Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen has said that the armed forces of the two countries were moving closer to each other more than ever. He also called for a greater role for India in the Asia-Pacific and South East Asian security arrangement and architecture in the present and the future. "Actually, no, it has not affected ties," Ng Eng Hen said when asked if the blacklisting of the Singapore Technology Kinetics by India after its name figured in the bribery case involving a former Ordnance Factory Board chief had affected defence ties between the two nations. Indian Army Chief to Head for Japan and Bangladesh to Boost Military Ties

Keeping up with its agenda of boosting military ties with various countries, the Indian Army Chief Gen.Bikram Singh will be visiting Japan by September-end as well as Bangladesh in October. The Indian Army Chief will be in Japan from September 30 to October 2. Following the Japan visit, the Army Chief will be in Bangladesh from October 3 to October 6. During the Indian Army Chief’s visit to Japan starting this month-end, Gen. Bikram Singh will hold meetings with the top Japanese military leaders to discuss ways of further strengthening Defence ties between the two nations. Indian Defence Minister Visiting Maldives to Further Ties

After a gap of three years, India's Defence Minister AK Antony will visit the atoll nation of Maldives for three days beginning this weekend, seeking to further enhance their already enmeshed military ties and to explore additional areas of assistance to its Indian Ocean partner. Though unrelated, Antony's visit comes at a time when China has found a footing in Maldives, where it opened its full-fledged embassy last year. This is also the first high level visit by an Indian political leader to Maldives after the February 2012 regime change when then president Mohamed Nasheed was ousted and then vice president Mohamed Waheed was installed as the state head. India China Army Exercise Next Year

After a lull of over three years in military ties, Defence ties between India and China are set to gain momentum with New Delhi mulling joint exercises with Beijing next year. India is planning to propose joint military exercises with China which will also include army-to-army exercises, sources said here. The armies of the two countries last held counter insurgency and counter terrorism wargames codenamed 'Hand-in-Hand' in 2009 in Belgaum in India and prior to that in China in 2007. India and China had agreed to enhance Defence exchanges and communications for better understanding and mutual trust. Read More...
