Aero India 2013 to Be a Low-Key Affair

Absence of foreign fighter aircraft and reduced number of participating companies are likely to make the ninth edition of the biennial Aero India show a low-key affair. Addressing a press conference on the Aero India show, Secretary (Defence Production) R K Mathur claimed the ninth edition of the show in Banglaore was expected to be "bigger and better" than the previous ones. However, ministry officials said the number of aircraft who have confirmed participation in the show is 52 this year so far while 63 aircraft had come in 2011. The number of companies who have booked space at the show is 607 while 675 took part in the last edition. HAL to be Lead Integrator in MMRCA Deal

For the production of 108 M-MRCAs in the country, Defence Ministry has decided to remain firm on having Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) as the lead integrator for the project rejecting French firm Dassault Aviation's plea to. The ministry's stand in this regard has come after French firm Dassault, which has bagged the IAF deal for supplying 126 MMRCA, asked it to define the role of HAL in the project. As per the tender, first 18 of the 126 aircraft are to be supplied by Rafale from its facilities and the rest 108 are to be license produced and integrated by the HAL at its facilities here. Give Us Bigger Role in MMRCA, Dassault to Defence Ministry

Seeking a greater responsibility in the MMRCA contract, French firm Dassault Aviation has asked the Defence Ministry to define the role of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in the project. If the contract is finalised, the first 18 aircraft would be supplied by Dassault directly to the Indian Air Force and the remaining 108 would be licence-produced at HAL facilities in Bangalore. The French Dassault has asked the Ministry to define the role of the premier Indian aerospace company in the final delivery of the 108 aircraft to be produced in India, industry sources said here. CCEA to Discuss 10 Per Cent HAL Disinvestment

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs will today consider a proposal for disinvestment of 10 per cent of government equity in the country's only state-owned aerospace firm Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The government expects to raise at least Rs 2500 crore by divesting 10 per cent from the company having 100 per cent share-holding in it, sources said. The disinvestment proposal has been mooted before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs amid government's plans to modernise the company for which Rs 20,000 crore would be required over next five years. IAF to Raise Four More Squadrons of Su-30 MKI Fighters

The IAF is all set to raise four more squadrons of Su-30 MKI fighter in the near future as it prepares to induct the tenth unit of the aircraft in Punjab along the Pakistan border. Codenamed 'Flying Lancers', the process to set up the new Number-15 squadron will be initiated in December and will be fully operational by middle of the next year, Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne said. "By the end of this year, in December, and early next year, we will be inducting a new Su-30 squadron, based in Punjab. That will be the tenth squadron of Su-30 and the process will continue for at least six months from January to June," he said. Read More...
