IAF Chief Browne Visits France to Assess Rafale Fighter and Other Ongoing Defence Projects

The IAF Chief NAK Browne is currently undertaking a four-day visit to France to further boost the Indo-French Defence ties which have been soaring high due to the recent selection of Rafale combat planes in the almost $ 12 billion deal. The IAF Chief will be meeting the top brass of French Defence officials, visiting various air-bases and checking out a Rafale Squadron. If Malpractice, Will Cancel Any Defence Deal: Antony

With the issue of corruption in defence deals resurfacing after the Army Chief's allegations, Defence Minister AK Antony on Thursday said the Government would cancel any deal if any malpractice is found in it. The Minister said after receiving complaints of wrongdoings in the deal to procure 126 combat aircraft from an MP, the Government is holding an inquiry parallel to the contract negotiations with the shortlisted vendor Dassault Aviation. India To Induct MMRCA from 2016

India will start inducting from 2016 the first lot of 126 multi-role combat jets it is purchasing for nearly $20 billion. It will comprise of 18 Rafale aircraft that will be bought off-the-shelf from French firm Dassault, Defence Minister AK Antony told parliament. The rest 108 MMRCA will be manufactured over the next seven years at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the defence public sector aerospace giant. Defence Minister Confirms the Phasing Out Of MiG-21s From 2014

With the large number of crashes involved in connection to the MiG-21 fleet, Defence Minister AK Antony has announced that the phasing out of the MiG-21 from IAF will begin from 2014. AK Antony added that the IAF will have a new and powerful fleet of next generation aircraft as the MiG-21’s will be completely phased out by 2017. Negotiations Begin With France For MMRCA As Defence Minister Rules Out Eurofighter

The Defence Minister AK Antony has announced that the acquisition process has begun for the French fighter plane Rafale which has beat the Eurofighter in the MMRCA competition. The Minister added that India has started the cost negotiation with France thereby ruling out the possibility of reconsidering the Eurofighter Typhoon as suggested by Britain.
