India Signs Multirole Transport Aircraft Follow-On Deal with Russia

India and Russia have signed a follow-on contract for preliminary design phase of the joint Multirole Transport Aircraft (MTA) project. India's public sector Defence aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) signed the Preliminary Design Phase (PDP) contract the Russian partner United Aircraft Corporation - Transport Aircraft (UAC-TA) according to Defence Ministry officials. The PDP is the follow-on contract for their Joint Venture 'Multirole Transport Aircraft Ltd' (MTAL) for the project. HAL Delivers ‘IFF-1410’ System to Navy for P-81 Aircraft, Implements New Procedures for Transparency with Vendors

India’s premier aeronautic laboratory, the state-run Hindustan Aeronauts Limited (HAL) has delivered the first homegrown production unit of Identification of Friend or Foe (IFF-1410) transponder for the Indian Navy’s Boeing P-8I reconnaissance aircraft. India Asks Russia for Timely Delivery of Gorshkov and More Orders of Brahmos Missile

India and Russia have recently concluded high-level talks on bilateral trade and key defence projects to which both nations are seriously committed. The Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Rogozin along with his delegation was in India and held talks regarding the BrahMos missile as well as the delivery of the refurbished INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier. Hal Bags Orders to the Tune of $ 18.61 Billion in the Current Year

The state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has revealed that its order-book position in the current financial year has been very healthy since around $ 18.61 billion worth of orders have already been received. In its annual report, HAL indicated that the orders include Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) and Hawk advanced jet trainers (AJTs) as well as other aircraft and aerospace products. In its annual report, HAL’s healthy order-book consists of deals for new aircraft and choppers including Sukhoi-30 MKI, Hawk, Dornier, LCA, Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT), Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) and Chetak helicopters. 50:50 Funding for Indo-Russian Aircraft Project

It seems that Defence Minister A K Antony's strong words have had their desired effect on the Russians in the multirole transport aircraft deal. The two sides had locked horns over the project as New Delhi was not happy with the Russian proposal for the joint development of the 20 tonne class transport aircraft. "The Russian have now agreed for a 50:50 funding for co-developing the aircraft and have also agreed to give an increased work share to the HAL for the programme," Defence Ministry sources told Defencenow.com.
