INS Saryu OPV Joins Indian Navy

Indian Navy has inducted a newly-built Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) that will enhance its ocean surveillance and patrolling capabilities. India's Port Blair-based tri-services Andaman and Nicobar Command chief Air Marshal P.K. Roy formally commissioned the ship into the Indian Navy at an event in Goa. The OPV, indigenously designed and built by the Indian defence public sector Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), demonstrates the immense potential of the country's indigenous ship designing and building capabilities, an Indian Navy officer said. Indian Coast Guard Inducts New Hovercraft

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has inducted a new hovercraft into service and it will be based at Okha in Gujarat. The hovercraft, H-187, is the first in the series of 12 Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) that were designed and are being built by Griffon Hoverwork Limited in the United Kingdom. The first craft was commissioned by ICG Director General Vice Admiral MP Muralidharan at a function held at Okha's ICG base. India's Defence Shipyards Building 61 Warships, Vessels

India's four Defence public sector shipyards are building a total of 61 warships and vessels for the maritime forces of the country. The four shipyards are Mumbai-based Mazagaon Docks Limited (MDL), Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Goa-based Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and Visakhapatnam-based Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), which is the latest entrant in governmental warship building in the country. Government Has Cleared The Acquisition Of Six Offshore Patrol Vessels for the Coast Guard

The government has cleared the acquisition of six Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) expected to be worth around Rs 1,800 crore for the Coast Guard to enhance its maritime surveillance capabilities. A Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, which was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, also cleared a proposal for acquiring around 500 Precision Guided Munitions (PGMs) for the fighter aircraft fleet of the IAF, defence sources told. Indian Navy to Grow into 150-Ship, 500-Aircraft Force by 2027

India's Navy will look like a "brand new" force by 2027 with a combatants level of 150-odd warships and another 500-odd aircraft fleet, even as it is also preparing to induct 49 new warships and submarines in the next few years that are on order with both Indian and foreign shipyards. This was revealed by Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma to coincide with the Navy Day celebrated on December 4. At present, the Indian Navy has 132 ships including 14 submarines and 216 aircraft, of which 80 are fixed wing, 122 helicopters and 14 unmanned aerial vehicles. Read More...
