India Seals Deal With Pilatus for Air Force Basic Trainer Planes

India has signed a $640 million (Rs.2,900 crore) contract with Swiss plane manufacturer Pilatus Aircraft Limited to supply 75 PC-7 basic trainers for Stage-I flying training of Indian Air Force (IAF) rookie pilots. The deal comes just a fortnight after the Cabinet Committee on Security, the country's highest Defence and security decision-making body, cleared it in a meeting on May 10. Swiss Aircraft Pilatus PC-7 Emerges as Lowest Bidder for IAF Trainer Aircraft

The hunt for the basic trainer aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) may have ended as the Pilatus PC-7 Turbo aircraft offered by the Swiss firm Pilatus Aircraft Limited has been identified as the lowest bidder in the tender offered by India. IAF Chief P.V.Naik announced that commercial negotiations are currently underway.
