IAF pilots to train in Switzerland

Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne has said that the IAF will be sending pilots and other technical staff to Switzerland to undergo the three-month training on the aircraft as the 'Pilatus-PC 7' is expected to join the fleet from January 2013. "We will be sending our pilots and about 75 technicians to Switzerland for training. They will be coming back after three months of training there. And from January (2013) onward the PC-7 aircraft will start to join in the academy," he said, adding the entire delivery of the aircraft is expected to be completed by July 2014. Korean Complaint in Basic Trainer Plane Tender Lacks Merit: India

India has rejected a Korean plane manufacturer's complaint against its selection of a Swiss plane as its choice for a basic trainer requirement of its air force. Defence Minister A.K. Antony told Parliament that a representation submitted by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), one of the bidders for the Rs.1,800 crore ($400 million) contract, has been found to be "devoid of merit." Grounding of Mirage-2000 and Lack of Basic Trainers Adversely Affects IAF’s Training and Operations

The lack of basic trainer aircraft and the grounding of fighters like Mirage-2000 have taken a heavy toll on the IAF. The delay in the procurement of a new trainer aircraft and the crashes of IAF planes is leading to depletion in the number of pilots in the IAF. HAL to Design, Develop Basic Trainer Planes for IAF

India's defence public sector major, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), has been entrusted with the task of indigenously designing and developing a modern basic trainer aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF). IAF will get 106 of these latest basic trainer aircraft to replace the Hindustan Piston Trainer-32 or Deepak that was grounded in mid-2009 following a series of crashes. India to Ink Swiss Basic Trainer Aircraft Deal and French Missile Deal for Mirage Fighters Shortly

The Indian Finance Ministry has cleared two crucial defence deals including the acquisition of 75 Swiss turbo-prop aircraft Pilatus PC-7 to train IAF pilots and the 450 advanced French missiles to arm upgraded Mirage-2000 multi-role fighters.
