Artillery tender scrapped third time in ten years

The Defence Ministry has cancelled a tender for procuring 180 self-propelled wheeled artillery guns for the Army, Defence Minister A K Antony informed Rajya Sabha today. Three tenders for procuring the gun have been cancelled in the last ten years. "The Request for Proposal (RFP) for procurement of 180 howitzers has been cancelled in 2012, for the third time in past ten years," he said in written reply to a query. The Minister said the RFP was cancelled this year as both the firms participating in the tender were not able to meet the parameters. Read More...

12 Choppers for IAF for Mission Siachen

Further strengthening its capabilities, the Indian Air Force is procuring 12 new light helicopters for deployment in the Siachen Glacier area. A request for proposal (RFP) has been sent by the IAF to Defence aerospace PSU HAL for buying 12 Cheetal helicopters which will be used for carrying out operations in high altitude areas in the northern borders, IAF officials said here. The Cheetal helicopters are an upgraded version of the Cheetahs with more powerful engines manufactured by HAL. The IAF has some of its squadrons of the Cheetah/Chetak choppers deployed in Leh and Those in Jammu and Kashmir for flying to provide air support to army troops deployed at and along the world's highest battlefield there, the officials said. Decision on IAF’s 15 Heavy-Lift Choppers Soon as Defence Ministry Opens Bids

A decision on the 15 heavy-lift helicopters for the Indian Air Force (IAF) is expected soon as the Indian Defence Ministry has opened the bids for the same earlier this week. According to reports, the Russian Mi-26 and the Boeing Chinook Ch47F have qualified in the technical trials and that their financial bids have been opened recently. The opening of the bids for IAF’s heavy-lift choppers was done in the presence of the bidders’ representatives and the winner would be declared based on the lowest bidder principle. Full-body truck scanners for Army at DAC

The Defence Acquisition Council will consider an Army proposal to procure and deploy full-body truck scanners to check cargo in vehicles coming from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The full-body truck scanners will strengthen our capability to detect arms and ammunition and the DAC will take a final decision on this proposal in its next meeting, sources said here. The DAC is the top decision-making body of the Defence Ministry headed by Defence Minister AK Antony. Sources said the scanning equipment is required by the force to be deployed at places in Jammu and Kashmir where cross-border trade routes have been opened across the Line of Control (LoC). IAF to Buy 20 Hawks Under Rs 1,500 Crore Deal

The Indian Air Force will induct 20 more Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft under a deal worth over Rs 1,500 crore with BAE Systems for its aerobatic team Surya Kiran. "BAE Systems has received a Request for Proposal (RFP) from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for a potential order to supply products and services for the manufacture of 20 Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) aircraft. The aircraft, to be built by HAL in Bangalore, will fulfill the Indian Air Force’s requirement for its prestigious aerobatic team," BAE Systems said. The HAL licence produces British-origin aircraft for the IAF at its facilities in Bangalore. With this order, the number of Hawks on order by the IAF would be 143. Read More...
