Indian Army to Procure GPS Navigational Aid for Its Choppers

In order to avoid future mishaps in various army operations, India has decided to procure modern navigational equipment for its choppers. Exercising exclusive rights and financial powers, the Northern Army Commander has issued a tender to procure 80 GPS advanced navigation systems for the Cheetah and Chetak helicopters. Russia Flies High As IAF Plans 71 Additional Mi-17 Choppers and Ka-226 T Overshadows Eurocopter's 550 C3 for Army

After having recently inducted the first Mi-17 V5 chopper into the fleet, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced that it is planning to procure 71 more Mi-17 V5 helicopters. Formal Induction of the Russian Mi-17 V5 into the IAF Today

The formal induction of the Russian-made medium-lift Mi-17V5 helicopters into the Indian Air Force (IAF) is scheduled for today. Till date, Russia has already delivered 21 of the 80 Mi-17s choppers ordered under the $1.34-billion deal in 2008. The induction ceremony will take place at the Palam airbase in the presence of Defence Minister A K Antony. The IAF has stated that the deployment of the first squadrons of the new Mi-17s choppers will be at Bhatinda and Srinagar. US, Russian-Origin Tanks To Fight It Out In Indian Exercise

For the first time, American and Russian-origin tanks will take on each other on Indian soil as the US and Indian troops get ready to hold the Exercise Yudh Abhyas in the Mahajan field firing ranges in Rajasthan next month. The Indian side will field its Russian-origin T-72 and BMP Infantry Combat vehicles whereas the Americans will come with their M1Abram tanks and Stryker ICVs for the wargames, Army officials said to defencenow.com. India to Induct Russian Mi-17V5 in 10 Days

India will formally induct its latest Russian military acquisition, Mi-17V5 helicopters, on February 17, about 10 days from now. Defence Minister AK Antony will that day formally hand over the keys to the first squadron of Mi-17V5 helicopters to the Indian Air Force, marking its entry into Indian service, at a function to be held at Hindon air base in Ghaziabad just outside the national capital. The first two squadrons of these helicopters will be based in Bhatinda in Punjab and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, IAF officers said here. Read More...
