Indo-Us Naval Drill ‘Malabar -2012’ Starts Off In Bay of Bengal

The annual Indo-US joint naval drill called ‘Exercise Malabar-2012’ has commenced in the Bay of Bengal at Chennai coast this week. Exercise Malabar 2012 will be a 10-day long exercise wherein both countries will carry out drills with the help of their frontline units. Indian Navy Commissions Second P-17 Stealth Frigate 'INS Satpura'

The second of the three Project-17 class stealth frigates, namely INS Satpura, has been commissioned into the Indian Navy by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma in Mumbai. INS Satpura is a P-17 class or Shivalik class frigate constructed at Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL). Admiral Verma stated that commissioning of INS Satpura will strengthen the fighting fleet of the Indian Navy and its improved survivability; maneuvering and stealth ability will act significantly towards navy’s status as blue water navy. Second Shivalik-Class Warship ‘INS Satpura’ to be Commissioned Next Month

The Indian Defence Ministry has announced that India's second second Shivalik class indigenous stealth frigate, INS Satpura, will be commissioned on 20th August this year in Mumbai. The Shivalik class frigates are conceived and designed by the Indian Naval team and will be frontline frigates of the Indian Navy in the future. Indian Navy receives new Warship & Fast Attack Craft to enhance Coastal Security

With the intention of prioritizing maritime security and boosting India’s capabilities in terms of coastal surveillance, a new stealth frigate called INS Satpura and a fast attack craft (FAC) called INS Koswari have been delivered to the Indian Navy. The INS Satpura warship has been delivered by state-run Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) whilst the FAC INS Koswari by the state-run Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). Read More...

Indian Navy to Induct New Stealth Frigates

The Indian Navy will witness a significant leap in its fleet of stealth frigates with the induction of two of the Project-17 stealth frigate this year besides the induction of a Russian-built frigate as well. INS Satpura, the 6,200 tonne stealth frigate is to be commissioned by mid-2011 while the Russian-built 4,900-tonne INS Teg will be ready for induction by October. Besides this, the floating of another Russian frigate, INS Trikand for Indian Navy will also take place this week.
