India and Japan have recently concluded discussing the cooperation in key bilateral areas; including maritime, cyber and outer space security, in Tokyo where foreign and Defence secretaries of both nations were present. Both countries also held talks pertaining to regional and international security situation as part of the 2nd India-Japan 2+2 Dialogue, according to Indian Foreign Ministry. The 2nd India-Japan 2+2 Dialogue involved the foreign and Defence secretaries of both nations reviewing the bilateral security and Defence cooperation. The current meet comes ahead of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Japan on November 15.

Close on the heels of acquiring the stealth frigate INS Teg last fortnight from Russia, Indian Navy is ready to commission two more ships, namely INS Tanaji and INS Sahayadri, in this month itself. While INS Tanaji will be a base depot ship commissioned today, INS Sahayadri will be the third ship of the Shivalik class of stealth frigates for the navy to be commissioned on July 21. According to Indian Navy, the commissioning of the Base Depot Ship INS Tanaji will be held today at the Mankhurd Naval Base Station.

Adding teeth to its warship fleet, the Indian Navy will July 21 commission INS Sahyadri, the third of the Shivalik class indigenous stealth frigates, in Mumbai. Built at the Mazagon Docks Limited under three-ship Project-17, INS Sahyadri had earlier this year gone through the final sea trials ahead of its induction into the navy. "Sahyadri is scheduled for commissioning into the Indian Navy on July 21," a senior navy officer said. This is the last of the Project-17 warships, the first two being INS Shivalik and INS Satpura. All of the Project 17 ships are named after the hill ranges of India.

Following the docking of four warships in Shanghai after a six year gap, Indian Navy is now preparing the departure of several other warships to cover the entire Indian Ocean Region. The Indian Navy is sending four warships on an overseas deployment to the Horn of Africa, Red Sea and the western Mediterranean to enhance its blue-water capability. Besides, Indian warships are also headed towards Seychelles, Mauritius and Maldives offering surveillance and anti-piracy patrolling.

After a gap of six years, four Indian warships are on a visit to China, docking at Shanghai on a four-day port call. The Indian warships -- guided missile destroyer INS Rana, stealth frigate INS Shivalik, a Kora class corvette INS Karmuk and fleet tanker INS Shakti -- from the Visakhapatnam-based Eastern Fleet entered Shanghai amidst a warm reception from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (Navy). Sailing out on India's eastern seaboard about a month ago, the warships are on a long-haul deployment through the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
