India develops SLBM for INS Arihant

Pumping itself up in the elite club of nations, India has successfully developed its first submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) for the indigenous nuclear submarine 'INS Arihant'. The SLBM, which can be launched from Arihant, has been developed successfully, sources said here. K-15 Submarine-Launched Missile Tested

India has tested a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), code-named K-15, after several months of delay. Another test is expected to take place in a day or two. The missile was reportedly tested on Sunday from a submerged launching pontoon in the Bay of Bengal off Visakhapatnam, sources said. The pontoon, a replica of a submarine, was submerged in the sea up to 20 feet deep when the testing of the missile was done, they said. The test took place about 10 km off the coast. "The test was successful and the missile covered 700 km before hitting the designated target," they said. Read More...
