Shipyard Modernisation Lapses Not Causing Warships Delays: Antony

Defence Minister A K Antony Wednesday said that there was no connection between the delays in modernisation of the defence shipyards and construction of warships. Antony told the Rajya Sabha (House of States in Indian Parliament) during question hour that "there have been initial delays in modernisation programme of Mazagon Docks Limited (based in Mumbai)." Indian Navy to Open New Naval Bases and Increase Manpower by 15 percent

The Indian Navy is going full steam ahead to diversify its operations and heighten its combative ability by developing operational and technical infrastructure and increasing manpower. Government sets Deadline for Mazagon Docks For Scorpene Submarine Delivery

The bleak status of the Indian Navy's submarine fleet which is facing obsolescence has led the Indian government to implement some tough deadlines on public-sector Mazagon Docks Limited (MDL) for the delivery of new submarines. Leading Indian private sector shipyard, the Gujarat-based ABG Shipyard, has bagged a maiden defence order to the tune of $ 215.55 million from the Indian Navy for the construction of two naval cadet ships.
