India Developing Two New Missile Test Ranges besides a Floating Test Range

With the number of missile tests escalating in the country and the Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha constantly inundated with missile tests, India plans to create two new missile testing ranges along the eastern coast. Besides the two ranges along the East Coast, the DRDO is also planning to establish a Floating Test Range including radars and launch facilities on a ship. With various missions planned in the near future for the Armed Forces, multiple facilities are being envisaged to accommodate the execution of short-range and long-range missions along the east coast. Indian Army's Combat Chopper, UAV Fleets Demand Gets Boost

Boosting the prospect of the Indian Army having its own fleet of combat helicopters, apart from unmanned aerial vehicles, Defence Minister AK Antony has discussed the proposals with army chief General Bikram Singh, his ministry top brass and the army seniors. At a nearly two-hour meeting in South Block, the seat of Defence ministry and headquarters of the army, Antony also asked the army top brass to focus and give priority to procure equipment and systems that are critically needed by it. Air Force, Navy issue RFP for 100 mini-UAVs

The Defence Ministry has issued a global request for proposal for procuring 95 mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy expected to be worth over Rs 50 crore. “The RFP was issued last fortnight for which a number of Indian and foreign manufacturers have responded,” Defence Ministry sources said to Defencenow.Com here. Indian Navy to Grow into 150-Ship, 500-Aircraft Force by 2027

India's Navy will look like a "brand new" force by 2027 with a combatants level of 150-odd warships and another 500-odd aircraft fleet, even as it is also preparing to induct 49 new warships and submarines in the next few years that are on order with both Indian and foreign shipyards. This was revealed by Indian Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma to coincide with the Navy Day celebrated on December 4. At present, the Indian Navy has 132 ships including 14 submarines and 216 aircraft, of which 80 are fixed wing, 122 helicopters and 14 unmanned aerial vehicles. Read More...

Indian Navy Issues RFI for the Acquisition of 3D Surveillance Radars

Indian Navy has issued a global Request for Information (RFI) for acquiring three dimensional radars (3D Radars) aimed at boosting the surveillance capability of naval warships. The 3D air surveillance radars will be fitted on warships above 3,000 tones which will facilitate 360 degree detection of hostile aircraft and choppers, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and sea-skimming missiles.
